Shoes

Environmental benefits: Every year in the UK more than 330 million pairs of shoes are bought, later to be discarded, ending up in landfill. The materials used in making shoes are not normally biodegradable.

How to recycle: As well as the normal charity outlets, the European Recycling Company runs a national network of collection points for second-hand shoes, which are sent out to developing countries for refurbishment.
