Pledges for a greener future from hundreds of school children, Olympians and celebrities were displayed on the back of pedal-bikes and cycled into London to be presented to Greg Barker MP, Minister of State for the Department for Energy and Climate Change.

Singer and songwriter Jamelia promised to offset her regular commute between London and Birmingham by getting on her bike more often. Broadcaster, Lauren Laverne, is going back to the 'Good Life' by growing her own vegetables, while Danielle Lineker pledged to cut back on plastic shopping bags, the amount of football watched on TV at home as well as time in the shower!

And Westminster embraced the Team Green Britain spirit, with cross party support for Green Britain Day :

"Reducing our carbon footprints will make a positive difference to both the environment and our energy bills. Even small changes in our daily lives can add up to a big difference so today I am happy to be supporting Team Green Britain." Gregory Barker, Minister of State for Energy and Climate Change.

"Climate change is the biggest challenge the world faces and even the smallest changes to our daily lives can add up to a big difference. I encourage everyone to do something green for the team by joining Team Green Britain." Ed Miliband, Shadow Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change.

"I welcome the second annual Green Britain Day and I hope that everyone uses it as an inspiration to start saving energy and tackle climate change. It is fantastic to see these events across the country encouraging people to reduce their carbon footprint." Liberal Democrat MP Don Foster

Lauren Laverne

Broadcaster Lauren Laverne is Team Green Britain's Food advocate and has been finding tasty ways to cut her carbon footprint, and encouraging other Brits to do the same. From finding the tastiest seasonal produce at her local farmer's market to setting up her own wormery she has learnt how to take a low-carbon approach to sourcing and cooking food.

Lauren says "During my week of Team Green Britain eco challenges I've been looking at ways to make a difference with the food I eat. Eating locally grown food that is in season can help to cut down on carbon emissions, and tastes better too. I've been inspired by what I've learnt and am going to make some long term changes to my approach to food."

Danielle Lineker

Leading the way in inspiring Brits to reduce their everyday household carbon footprint is Team Green Britain’s Home champion, Danielle Lineker. From reducing her fashion miles and buying clothes from second hand charity shops to installing LED energy efficient light bulbs, Danielle has taken on a series of eco challenges to reduce her energy consumption in the home.

Danielle says "I'm really proud to be a part of Team Green Britain and I want to inspire others to take on the challenge and join up. As a Mum I know time is a luxury, so my eco-challenges are all about making quick changes that can make a difference to both the planet and your pocket. My eco-house-challenge is going really well! We've become more aware of how much energy is being wasted around the house, and using less everyday. We're doing more as a family, not sitting in front of the telly every night! If I can do it, anyone can!"

Jamelia

Singer Jamelia is Team Green Britain's Travel hero. She's been encouraging families to dust off their bikes and to incorporate this more eco-friendly means of transport into their everyday lives.

Jamelia says "Green Britain Day is a great opportunity to show how Brits can rise to the challenge of climate change and have fun at the same time. Hopping on the bike rather than taking the car helps my health, my finances and the environment. It’s also a fantastic way to get the family out and about together."
