Powering the Games

There is more to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games than athletic prowess. The Games show us what people are capable of – and as London 2012’s first Sustainability Partner, we can show what the future of energy could look like.

London 2012 Stadium

As the UK's largest producer of low-carbon electricity and first Sustainability Partner for the Games, EDF Energy is helping to make London 2012 truly sustainable. By powering the Olympic Park during the Games, we intend to show that a low-carbon approach to energy is possible.

Creating a truly sustainable Games

Smart metering

We are installing 3,000 smart meters to monitor energy consumption and optimise its supply in the Olympic Park. We've already installed thousands of them nationwide as part of our trial of the technology. Team Green Britain Ambassador and Olympic Gold Medal-winning cyclist Victoria Pendleton explains the difference Smart Meters can make.
