Britain's Greenest SoapPrint
EastEnders has beaten Coronation Street and Emmerdale to be named Britain’s ‘Greenest Soap’ in research by EDF Energy.
The study shows that characters in
EastEnders are taking more action to reduce their on-screen carbon
footprint than those from any of the other soaps analysed.
Martine McCutcheon stopped by to tell us all
about what makes EastEnders so green. "The study was conducted to
raise awareness of green and sustainable living and it's great that
simple things are being shown by soap stars and they're things we
can do too. Out on top, I'm really pleased to say being a former
Mitchell myself, it was Shirley Carter. It was the Mitchells in
EastEnders, they were the top of the tree."

According to Martine, there's plenty of easy ways to be green.
"Some of the simple things are maybe not driving so much, taking
public transport or better still walking. Things like eating
seasonal foods, doing your own washing up if you can, rather than
using the dishwasher. You know, all those things are things that
you can do and end up being a lot more affordable too, so it makes
sense."
